Specification for G.I. (Galvanized Iron) Wires

G.I.Wires should be annealed mild steel confirming to,

· IS: 280 - 1978,  Specification for Mild Steel Wire for General Engineering Purposes.

· Size of Wires,

          8 SWG  =  3.90 mm

        10 SWG  =  3.25 mm

        12 SWG  =  2.64 mm

· Galvanization of wires should confirm to

IS:4826 - 1979,  Specification for Hot-Dipped Galvanizing Coatings on Round Steel  Wires.

The galvanization should be of heavy coating with minimum zinc coat as bellow,

          8 SWG  =  280 g/m ²

        10 SWG  =  270 g/m ²

        12 SWG  =  260 g/m ²

· The average strength of the G.I.Wire should be 380 - 500 N/mm ²

· The G.I. wire should also pass on uniformity and adhesion test.
